Curriculum Statement

The following subjects are offered at Amaano Boarding and Day School across each year group

Year 9

English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education (RE), Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), History, Geography, Art, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Physical Education (PE) and Arabic.

Years 10 and 11

Students study a compulsory core of:

English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, Science, RE, Physical Education, PSHE

In addition a range of options pathways are offered tailored to individual student needs.  Courses will only run subject to student numbers and may be offered at either or both of GCSE and BTEC Level 2. These options include: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, Somali, Arabic, Art, Graphics, Product Design, Food, ICT, Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Business Studies, Sports Science, Media Studies.

Years 12 and 13

Students are expected to study 4 Level. Courses will only run subject to student numbers. These include: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, ICT, Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care, Business Studies, Government and Politics, Economics, Philosophy, Computer Science, Law, Critical Thinking, English, Arabic, Somali, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Creative Writing, Drama & Theatre Studies, Sports Science and community languages. In addition students who have not obtained at least a grade C in GCSE English or Mathematics are required to retake these courses and can follow level 2 courses in Business or Health and Social Care.

In addition students may receive support for identified individual special needs and language support. The school reserves the right to alter the offer at any time subject to statutory requirements and the needs of the school.
